The purpose of this blog is to maintain contact with my friends and family while I'm in Austria. Since I am absolutely terrible with keeping up with people and writing individual e-mails everyone can just go to one place to see my pictures and find out whats going on!

I'm enjoying the adventure of life God has put before me. I'm a red head from North Carolina who got sent to Southern California by divine detour. I'm a little more in love with an amazing man named David every day. I hope you enjoy my stories and musings!

Carpenter File 15: Fortress Exploration and Violins Unplugged

This past weekend was SO much fun! I just stayed in town because plans for going to Barcelona fell through. I was a little bummed and then I found out about all the cool stuff going on in Salzburg over the weekend. The new Mozarteum opened! It is a massive musical center for the University of Salzburg. In honor of the completion of this massive project they had a free day of concerts in all the auditoriums as well as opening up the whole building to allow the public a rare view in all the amazingly built practice rooms. I went to 4 concerts with Stacey and Lisa! We had a blast!!! I heard a jazz band, several German piano sonatas, and a Mozart trio consisting of piano, violin, and clarinet. But by FAR my favorite concert EVER was the one called Violins Unplugged! It consisted of four violinists, a bass, and a cello. The Violinists were all superb and they basically got up there and jammed for an hour with more enthusiasm then I've ever seen in any musicians in my life! One of them played with his eyes closed. Sometimes they would just laugh out loud in the joy of the moment. I wish I had been able to get better pictures! They were too blacked out by the backdrop! Oh yea and there was this INCREDIBLE piece of art. An elaborate dinner table made entirely out of paper. If that wasn't spectacular enough they hung if from the ceiling over the audience in front of the larger stage! I don't know why or what the purpos of it was but it looked really unique!
Then on Sunday I went to Salzburg Fortress. I took a guided tour to the top of the tour and saw a most incredible view of the city from above! They I just explored the rather extensive grounds. There is a church, a war uniform museum (just remember whenever you fight a battle don't forget your giant completely pointles fur top hat-why did they wear these), several estate rooms, and a lot of gorgeous views. I basked in the sunshine of the beautiful day, enjoyed an independent tour at my own pace, and took about a million pictures. These are a small selection.
Alrighty I'm off to write an 8 page paper about Mozart's Last Year for a mid term. I also have bunches of midterm tests this week if you all could please pray for that. Then on Friday I Leave For TWO WEEKS!!! I'm so excited I want to do back flips!!!
